Key staff members of Energy Solutions Network and the EPNetwork affiliated companies are Certified Measurement and Verification Professionals (Association of Energy Engineers), or have the requisite experience and expertise to measure and verify the energy performance of installed energy conservation measures. Measurement and Verification ensures that equipment efficiencies match expectations and assumptions set forth in energy models and energy savings calculations. This step gives an immediate indication how successful energy savings will be achieved over the term of an Energy Savings Performance Contract. After all newly installed equipment has been measured, an M&V report may be prepared and submitted. M&V procedures followed by the EPNetwork affiliated companies follow guidelines established by the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP). Generally, detailed measurements including data logs are taken on sophisticated measures warranting such measurement, while only efficiency measurements are performed on new equipment. In all cases, a practical assessment is made to determine if measurement costs are justified given guaranteed savings cost risk. In other words, a $1,000 measurement procedure will not be implemented on a measure that saves only $100 / year. The cost of measurement shall be commensurate and in scale with the level of savings.
